eTeaching Core Workshops
The Teaching and Learning Collaborative (TLC) began its eTeaching Core Workshops in 2010 and piloted an online version, as a fully online course, in fall 2011. The sessions are designed to introduce faculty and GTAs to the unique challenges of distance teaching and learning.
Faculty Learning Community for Junior Faculty (FLC, Jr.)
The Faculty Learning Community for Junior Faculty (FLC, Jr.) is a great opportunity to meet new junior faculty in a friendly, peer-supportive environment while working on a variety of teaching skills to help strengthen your effectiveness as an instructor.
Graduate Teaching Assistantship Program (GTAP)
Graduate Teaching Assistantship Program (GTAP) provides training and resources to new GTAs to better prepare them for their teaching responsibilities. In addition to a required Professional Development Workshop for all new GTA’s, GTAP also includes an online course component and follow-up support as needed. GTAP also coordinates and hosts a half-day orientation to new GTAs.
Online Learning Initiative (OLI)
The Online Learning Initiative (OLI) encourages faculty to invest time and talent in online education, providing greater opportunities for study at GW through the development of courses that provide flexibility of time and location to students and faculty.
The Portfolio Program is designed to help faculty in the use electronic portfolios to assess student development over time and/or to document their own progress as instructors. We aim to give faculty the tools and perspectives to help them determine whether an Portfolio could be a valuable tool in their teaching.
Research at the TLC
The Teaching & Learning Collaborative works with GW faculty to design and conduct classroom-based research on the scholarship of teaching and learning in relation to the application and use of emerging learning technologies. The primary purpose of such applied research is to examine learning outcomes generate by instructional strategies designed to interface with the instructional technology tools used.

There are a variety of university-wide teaching awards to honor faculty members and graduate teaching assistants for excellence in teaching. The Teaching and Learning Collaborative is now managing the process for nominations and selection of these awards.
Please note that Instructional Technology Lab (ITL) workshops are for faculty and GTAs who are assigned to a teaching role for the current academic year.
