Consortium Loan Service (CLS): Loan Periods

This guide is designed to facilitate users through the borrowing of consortium books, known as the Consortium Loan Service (CLS)

Loan Periods

When an item arrives via CLS, you will receive a notification and have 10 days to retrieve the item before they are returned to the owning library.

The loan periods for CLS are determined by your status with George Washington University.  Below are the borrowing policies put forth by WRLC along with the loan period for the various user groups.

Items can be renewed 3 times and there is a 3 day grace period for renewals and returns.

If you want to check your current loans, renew, or see any accrued fines, log in to the My Library Account portal.

Loan periods for books

Faculty Fixed Due Dates, dependent on when book is checked out: 1/31, 5/31, 9/30
Graduate Students 42 days
Undergraduate Students 28 days
Staff 28 days


General Circulating Book Information

Renewal Limit 3 times
Grace Period after due date:  
Normal check out 3 days
Recalled books 0 days
Maximum item limit for:  
George Mason 25 items
American, Catholic, Gallaudet, Georgetown, GWU, Howard, Marymount, Trinity, UDC No limit
Reasons for blocks on library account:   
Amount of fines accrued is more than  $25.00
Number of overdue recalled books exceeds 1 item
