Linking to Electronic Resources: Creating Durable Links: E-Books & Databases

Guide to creating links to full-text journal articles and e-texts which are part of Himmelfarb Library's electronic collections. Links can be used in Blackboard as well as in other course materials.

AccessMedicine, AccessSurgery & AccessAnesthesiology

  1. Locate the full-text content and click on "Generate a Citation".
  2. Locate the URL within the citation information in the pop-up box and copy it.
  3. Paste the link.
  4. Add the proxy prefix to the beginning of the link.

Example: http://proxygw.wrlc.org/login?url=https://accessmedicine.mhmedical.com/content.aspx?bookid=2129&sectionid=192279783

Books@Ovid

  1. Locate the content and display it.
  2. Click "Email Jumpstart".
  3. Copy and paste the article link given in the comments box of the pop-up window.
  4. NOTE: The proxy prefix is already added; no further editing is needed.

CINAHL Plus with Full-Text

  1. Locate the article and click on the title link.
  2. In the menu on the right side of the screen, locate the paperclip icon, i.e. 'Permalink' then click on it.
  3. Copy and paste the article link given in the Permalink box.
  4. NOTE: The proxy prefix is already added; no further editing is needed.

ClinicalKey & ClinicalKey for Nursing

  1. Locate article and display.
  2. Copy the URL for the article displayed in your browser window.
  3. Add the proxy prefix to the beginning of the article link.

Example: http://proxygw.wrlc.org/login?url=https://www.clinicalkey.com/#!/browse/book/3-s2.0-C20150054004

Digital Object Identifier (DOI)

  1. Locate and copy the alphanumeric digital object identifier for the article  (example: 10.1093/med/9780199734849.001.0001)
  2. Add the proxy prefix and the DOI base link (http://dx.doi.org/) to the before the DOI to create one string:

Example: http://proxygw.wrlc.org/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780199734849.001.0001

DynaMed Plus

  1. Locate article and display.
  2. Copy the URL for the article displayed in your browser window.
  3. Add the proxy prefix to the beginning of the article link.

 

Example: http://proxygw.wrlc.org/login?url=http://www.dynamed.com/topics/dmp~AN~T921881/Malaria-treatment

 

Health Policy Reference Center

  1. Locate the article and click on the title link.
  2. In the menu on the right side of the screen, locate the paperclip icon, i.e. 'Permalink' then click on it.
  3. Copy and paste the article link given in the Permalink box.
  4. NOTE: The proxy prefix is already added; no further editing is needed.

  1. Locate the content using the browse menus and display it.
  2. Copy the URL displayed in the web browser's location/address.
  3. Paste the article link.
  4. Add the proxy prefix to the beginning of the article link.

NCBI Bookshelf

  1. Locate the content and display it.
  2. Copy the URL displayed in the web browser's location/address.
  3. Paste the article link.
  4. NOTE: do not add the proxy prefix to this URL.

Pediatric Care Online

  1. Locate the content and display it.
  2. Copy the URL displayed in the web browser's location/address.
  3. Paste the article link.
  4. Add the proxy prefix to the beginning of the article link.

Example: http://proxygw.wrlc.org/login?url=https://www.pediatriccareonline.org/pco/ub/view/RedBook/187106/all/legionella_pneumophila_infections

PsychiatryOnline

  1. Locate the article and right-click on the article title.
  2. Choose "Copy Link Location" or "Copy Shortcut".
  3. Paste the article link.
  4. Add the proxy prefix to the beginning of the article link.

OR

  1. Locate the article and click on the link for "PDF".
  2. Copy the URL displayed in the web browser's location/address.
  3. Paste the article link.
  4. Add the proxy prefix to the beginning of the article link.

PsycINFO

  1. Locate the article and click on the title link.
  2. In the menu on the right side of the screen, locate the paperclip icon, i.e. 'Permalink' then click on it.
  3. Copy and paste the article link given in the Permalink box.
  4. NOTE: The proxy prefix is already added; no further editing is needed.

PubMed

  1. Locate the article in PubMed and make a note of the article's PMID.
  2. Append the PMID to this link: http://himmelfarb.gwu.edu/pmid/
  3. NOTE: It is not necessary to add a proxy prefix. 

Example: http://himmelfarb.gwu.edu/pmid/25785675

R2 Library

  1. Locate the content and display it.
  2. Copy the URL displayed in the web browser's location/address.
  3. Paste the article link.
  4. Add the proxy prefix to the beginning of the article link..

SPORTDiscus with Full Text

  1. Locate the article and click on the title link.
