Generative AI has been a frequent topic of discussion since last November when ChatGPT launched.  ChatGPT is a ‘large language model’ that allows a user to ask questions to which ChatGPT will create and immediately display responses.  Text that is generated by ChatGPT is difficult, if not impossible, to distinguish from human-generated text.   And, while ChatGPT can generate text, it can also generate inaccurate information, too - by fabricating information (including citations) when it doesn’t have the right information or by providing outdated information.  ChatGPT was initially trained on data through September 2021 so its responses reflect that limitation; premium ChatGPT subscriptions now use a version of ChatGPT which will continuously browse the Internet for updated information.

  • Fall is in the air and we are running a Fall photo contest! Head outdoors to admire the beautiful fall foliage and capture those amazing photos. Enter your best photo with a chance to win a PRIZE. The 2023 Himmelfarb Fall Colors Photo Gallery will showcase all digital photos submitted.
    • Submit your photos by Friday, November 3, 2023.
    • Complete a 2023 Online Contest Submission Form and submit an original photo (JPEG, PDF, PNG files only). Limit 1 entry person.
    • The contest photo must be original and taken in 2023.
    • By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest.

Anatomical Models Added to the Himmelfarb Collection

New Anatomical Models

Himmelfarb Library now offers nine new anatomical models for student use. SMHS anatomy and occupational therapy faculty alongside GWSPH exercise science faculty surveyed an extensive list of possible models for purchase and recommended these as vital additions to the library’s non-print collection.

Growing Readership with Health Sciences Research Commons

HSRC Readership

The Health Sciences Research Commons (HSRC) is a digital repository maintained by the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library where students, faculty, and staff associated with SMHS, SPH, and SON can archive copies of their scholarly output. Using HRSC you can archive materials including conference posters, reports, news articles, OA journal articles, preprints, book chapters, ETDs, and more. Archiving your materials allows you to participate in the scholarly communications process by making your ideas and research available to your peers in the health sciences community.
