Important Access Announcement!

Current GWorld card and uploaded vaccine record are required for entry:

  1. All affiliates must present a valid GWorld card upon Himmelfarb Library entry.
  2. All affiliates must have their COVID vaccine record uploaded into the health portal
  3. All affiliates must follow GW's current testing schedule.

Access Policies

Himmelfarb Library Access Policy (Fall, 2021)

Physical access to Himmelfarb Library is restricted to graduate students, and undergraduate majors, medical residents, faculty and staff of The George Washington University Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), Milken Institute School of Public Health (GWSPH), and Nursing (SON). Faculty of other programs within the University also have library access. Hospital and MFA employees have access as well.

All affiliates listed above (including Hospital and MFA employees) must present a current GWorld card upon entry, and must have uploaded their vaccine records to GW’s vaccine portal.

SMHS = School of Medicine and Health Sciences

GWSPH = Milken Institute School of Public Health

SON = School of Nursing

UHS = GW Hospital

MFA = Medical Faculty Associates

CNHS = Children’s National Health System

IBS = Institute for Biomedical Sciences

M-ATS = Master of Science in Anatomical and Translational Sciences

GCATS = Graduate Certificate in Anatomical and Translational Sciences

 

GW Students:

Current GW Students with Unrestricted Himmelfarb Access

SMHS/GWSPH/SON advanced degree students

Undergraduate students with declared major in SMHS/GWSPH/SON

GW Medical and Health Sciences Residents

Students pursuing advanced degrees in the following university programs:

  • Biochemistry
  • IBS
  • M-ATS/GCATS
  • Epidemiology/Biostatistics

 

GW Students with Restricted Himmelfarb Access *

Graduate/Undergraduate Degree (Active)

Early Selection Program undergraduates (seven-year BA/MD program)

CNHS Residents (with GWorld card)

Visiting Medical Students from another school (with GWorld card)

Governor’s Health Sciences Academy students (with GWorld card)

* NOTE: Library access is restricted to the 1st floor and B1 level (no study room access).

Students in non-SMHS/GWSPH/SON degree programs*

* NOTE: Class Professor may request semester access for a student if the class meets in Himmelfarb and/or the student requires access to onsite physical reserve material. Library access is restricted to the 1st floor and B1 level (no study room access).

 

GW alumni:

GW Alumni with No Himmelfarb Access

ALL GW Alumni, including those with an SMHS/GWSPH/SON degree (due to COVID restrictions)

 

GW faculty:

GW Faculty with Unrestricted Himmelfarb Access

All current University faculty

All Emeritus University faculty

 

GW Faculty with No Himmelfarb Access

All retired or former University faculty (including SMHS/GWSPH/SON)

 

GW staff:

GW Staff with Unrestricted Himmelfarb Access

Current SMHS/GWSPH/SON staff (must have an active GWorld card, and have uploaded their vaccine record to the GW Vaccine Portal.)

Hospital and MFA employees (must have an active GWorld card, and have uploaded their vaccine record to the GW Vaccine Portal.)

 

GW Staff with No Himmelfarb Access

All retired or former University staff (including SMHS/GWSPH/SON)

 

GW temporary affiliates:

GW Temporary Affiliates (Active Only) with Restricted Himmelfarb Access

Visiting Medical students (must have a GWorld card)

Visiting Medical and Health Sciences Residents (must have a GWorld card)

Visiting Scholars (must have a GWorld card)

Himmelfarb wage account employees not otherwise affiliated with the library: access only for work-related activities (must have a GWorld card)

NOTE: Library access is restricted to the 1st floor and B1 level (no study room access).

GW Temporary Affiliates with No Himmelfarb Access
