Remote Access

From GW Hospital and off-campus locations, residents can login to resources using their GW UserID followed by

  1. Access the Himmelfarb Library website, and select the database, e-text, or e-journal which you would like to access.
  2. When the 'George Washington University Single Sign-on' webpage is displayed, securely login with your GW UserID followed by "" (students) or "" (faculty/staff).
    • Accounts created before May 22, 2022: Your GW UserID is the portion of your email address prior to @.
    • Accounts created after May 22, 2022: Your GW UserID is your GWID (G#).
  3. The database, e-text, or e-journal that you selected will display automatically.


Himmelfarb Library @ GW Hospital

  • GW Hospital is on a separate network from the Library and Ross Hall.
  • The Library’s website automatically detects users at the GW Hospital and displays resources via two tabs
    • Hospital Resources – no login required to access more selective set of clinical resources;  includes ClinicalKey, DynaMed, Lexicomp, and selected e-journals.
    • All Resources – login with your GW UserID/password to access all e-journals, e-texts and databases.

Getting Started @ Himmelfarb & GW

Here are a few tips to help you orient yourself to GW and Himmelfarb Library:

  1. Claim your GW UserID - this account provides your access to numerous GW systems. 
  2. Off-Campus Library Access -  via either web-based login/password or by using the GW VPN.
  3. GW Hospital Access -  Himmelfarb delivers a set of clinical resources to GW Hospital users with no login required; residents can access Himmelfarb's complete collections by switching to 'all collections' / Himmelfarb's default website.
  4. Apps - install clinical apps including Lexicomp and DynaMed and explore additional tools on Himmelfarb's App Shelf.
  5. LibKey Nomad browser extension - connects you to full-text articles faster plus additional library services such as interlibrary loan and the Consortium Loan Service. 
  6. Citation Management - sign up for a RefWorks citation management account; some schools provide access to EndNote for faculty (SMHS faculty; SPH faculty.
  7. Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud  are available at no cost  to current students, faculty and staff as well as additional software downloads.
  8. The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal - digital access available at no cost to current students, faculty and staff.


NEJM Resident 360


  1. Access NEJM Resident 360 via Himmelfarb Library to create a free personal account using your email address.  
  2. After creating your account, you may access via the library or by direct access to NEJM Resident 360.


Wireless access to the GW computer network is available from Himmelfarb Library, Ross Hall Room 201, and from other areas on campus. Wireless access is available to GWU students, faculty, and staff only.

Instructions for connecting to GWireless

  1. Connect to the GWireless network from your device's list of available networks.
  2. When prompted, provide your GW UserID and password.
  3. After a Certificate screen displays, select Accept.
