E-texts are textbooks that are available online as a resource of Himmelfarb Library. The following have been used in EOH courses as required or recommended reading.
The National Academies Press (NAP) was created by the National Academies to publish the reports issued by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Medicine, and the National Academies, Health & Medicine Division, the medical operating arm of the National Research Council, all operating under a charter granted by the Congress of the United States. The NAP publishes more than 200 books a year on a wide range of topics in science, engineering, and health, capturing the most authoritative views on important issues in science and health policy. The institutions represented by the NAP are unique in that they attract the nation's leading experts in every field to serve on their award-winning panels and committees.
Many published titles by The National Academies Press are offered in digital PDF format. Hundreds of these books can be downloaded for free by the chapter or by the entire book, while others are available for purchase. Questions about accessing their PDFs are addressed in their site's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
Many of their books are relevant to the field of Environmental & Occupational Health and can be found by searching the topic of interest by keyword. Look for the search box in the upper left side. Alternatively, the left tool bar permits browsing by topic. Another helpful tool once a search has been conducted is the term clouds that appear to the right of the search results that structure searches potentially relevant to the one completed.
