Measuring Scholarly Research Impact: Increase the Visibility of Your Research

There are a number of ways you can increase the visibility of your research and to publicize your scholarship.

• Archive your research in an open access repository
  • Health Sciences Research Commons - An online digital archive for storing, disseminating, and sharing the research output of the GW health sciences communities. Upload drafts of journal articles, teaching tools, posters, presentations, datasets, and more **as copyright permits - see HSRC Author FAQ for more information**
  • Subject Repositories - NIH PubMed Central (required for recipients of NIH grants), arXIV.org ePrint archive, Social Science Research Network (SSRN), bioPreprint, and others
• Consider publishing in an open access journal
  • Consult the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) for trustworthy OA titles
• Develop your online identity using ORCID, LinkedIn, and/or ResearcherID. Ensure your faculty profiles in GW Expert Finder and departmental webpages are up to date, and contain links to your works. 
• Share publications with research management tools like Mendeley, ResearchGate, CiteULike, Slideshare, and others
  • **Before you post research on Mendeley and other research-sharing sites, you need to ensure that you have copyright permission to post the material. See Mendeley's Copyright and Intellectual Property Policy for more information.**
• Link your research on a personal website to make it discoverable by Google Scholar and other search engines.
• Include keywords and abstracts when linking your article to ensure that your article can be easily discovered.
