Bloedorn Technology Center: Computer Resources and Software at the BTC

Computer Availability (on-campus only)

Computers: The Bloedorn Technology Center houses nearly 50 public Dell PCs with flat-screen monitors available for use. In 307F, the Multimedia Curricular Workstation provides access to software useful for creating digital media and for screen capturing and recording in the service of creating video tutorials.

Faculty may request that software be installed on the Bloedorn computers by submitting the Institutional Software Request Form. Send the completed form to Laura Abate, Himmelfarb 101, or email the scanned form to leabate@gwu.edu.

About BTC Software

PCs in the Women's Board Teaching Classroom (307A) and adjoining computer lab spaces of the BTC provide access to MIcrosoft Office and to the internet. They also provide access to curricular software offering instruction in Medical, Health Sciences, and Public Health topics.

Statistical Software at Himmelfarb Library

Software Installed on Himmelfarb Library PCs:
Himmelfarb Library provides access to several statistical software products. This software is installed on various workstations in the Bloedorn Technology Center, the Women's Board Teaching Classroom (WBTC), and the Middle Lab, located on the 3rd floor of the library (see map below). Some software is also installed on workstations in room B103 in the library basement.

SPSS:
Installed on all Bloedorn Technology Center Computers and in Room B103. An additional copy is installed on the Multimedia Curricular Workstation (Room 307F).
(We have the AMOS, Regression and Sample Power modules for SPSS installed only on the Multimedia Curricular Workstation.)

Need access to specialized software outside the library?  ArcGis, NVivo, SAS, SPSS, and STATA are available online via GW Virtual Computer Lab!

GW's Virtual Computer Lab permits students, faculty and staff to remotely access specialized software in a safe and secure Windows desktop environment using their personal computers. The following software is available:

  • SEERStat
  • IBM SPSS

An active GW UserID, along with an HTML5-compatible web browser such as Chrome, Firefox or MS Edge are required. Here is how to get started:

1.    Visit https://gwu.apporto.com and log in with your GW email account.

2.    Once logged in, connect to the virtual desktop environment labeled 'GW Desktop' which will then launch a new browser tab.

3.    Follow the on-screen instructions during the brief tutorial.
