Courtyard Service

Request your item(s)

  1. Search the Health Information @ Himmelfarb to identify each item you'd like to borrow.
    • Select Himmelfarb Catalog from the drop-down menu to be sure that print items are included in your search.
    • Login via the link in the upper right so that the Delivery Request form link displays.
  2. Use the Delivery Request form to request these items.
  3. We will notify you by email when your request has been filled.

Pickup and Return

  1. Pickup and return your items during these hours:
    • 9am - 7pm, Monday - Thursday
    • 9am - 5pm, Friday
    • 1pm - 6pm, Saturday - Sunday
  2. A few minutes prior to your arrival in the Ross Hall courtyard, call the Himmelfarb Library Circulation Desk at (202) 994-2962.
  3. We will meet you just outside the courtyard entrance to Ross Hall; do not enter Ross Hall to pick-up or return items, or go to the 24th Street loading dock entrance.
  4. For your security, you must show us your GWorld card before we can hand you items for pickup. If you are picking items up for someone else, you must present that person's GWorld card.

Renewals

  • You may renew items twice, as long no one else has placed a hold on them.
  • Please see Renewals for instructions on renewing items.

Who can request courtyard pickup?
Any patron who currently has borrowing and/or Interlibrary loan privileges may use this service, although patrons with onsite access are asked to pull items to borrow from the shelves themselves and bring those items to the Circulation Desk to check out.

Where exactly do I go to pick up or drop off items?

Pickup and drop-off happens just outside the courtyard entrance to Ross Hall. Drivers will need to park and then walk to the courtyard entrance to Ross Hall. Please do not use the 24th Street loading dock entrance.

What items are eligible for pickups?

When is courtyard pickup available?

  • 9am - 7pm, Monday - Thursday
  • 9am - 5pm, Friday
  • 1pm - 6pm, Saturday - Sunday

How soon will my item(s) be ready for pickup?

  • Himmelfarb-owned items: Expect a 24-hour turnaround time for most requests. (Note that requests submitted on Friday will not be processed until Sunday.)
  • Consortial Loan Service (CLS) items: Expect a one-week window for ordering a book, plus a 24-hour window for notification.
  • Interlibrary loan: Expect a one- to two-week window for ordering a book, and a 24-hour window for notification.

How many items may be requested at a time?

  • You may request up to 5 total items (Himmelfarb/CLS/ILL) at a time.
  • For a multi-volume set, each volume counts as one item.

How many pickups are permitted per day?
We offer one pickup per patron per day.

What are the pickup requirements?

  • The patron must wear a mask, and must show their GWorld card/Hospital ID.
  • Patron must wait in the Ross Hall courtyard; do not enter Ross Hall lobby.
  • If a proxy is designated to pick up an item for a patron, they must wear a mask and present the borrower's GWorld card.

How soon are items returned to the shelves if not picked up on the agreed date?

  • Himmelfarb-owned items are reshelved after 3 days.
  • Consortial Loan Service (CLS) items are shipped back to the lending library after 10 days.
  • Interlibrary loan items: a staff member will contact you after 10 days before shipping items back to the lending library.

How can I make a request online?

How can I renew my item(s)

  1. Regular books and AV materials may be renewed twice as long as there is not a hold on that item and your record is in good standing.
  2. You can renew items:
    • Online by logging into your library account with your GW NetID and password.
    • Over the phone by calling 202-994-2962.
    • In person at the Circulation Desk.
  3. Renewed items circulate for 3 weeks from the date of renewal.
