How Can I Save My Search Results?

In the results list, use the tools that appear in the right hand corner of each listed item as shown below:

  • Envelope icon opens an email option
  • Infinity icon creates a permalink to the record in Health Information @ Himmelfarb that can be used or embedded in other applications
  • Pin icon saves the item to "Favorites" in Health Information @ Himmelfarb.  Note that you must Sign In to use this option.  Learn more about Favorites in Using My Favorites below.

Clicking ... on the far right opens additional tools below the item:

These tools provide options to print or export to RefWorks or Endnote Web.

Using My Favorites

Use the Sign In option at top right to save results to lists or save searches for re-use. You'll be prompted to login with your GW UserID.  Sign in is limited to School of Medicine and Health Sciences, School of Public Health, and School of Nursing affiliates. For other GW affiliates, see the Ordering from Your Home Library page to find your home catalog.

Once signed in, you can use the pins as shown above in How Do I Save My Search Results? to save results to Favorites.  You can save a search using the Save Query button at the top of the results page.

To retrieve Favorites lists and searches, click on your name at top right and select My Favorites from the drop down menu.

There you can retrieve and use saved results and re-execute saved searches.

You can also retrieve your search history here.  This is only available for searches run while signed into Health Information @ Himmelfarb.

Using Citation Tools

Health Information @ Himmelfarb allows you to follow the citation trail by both indicating the presence of works that have cited a retrieved item and the works the retrieved item cited.

A red up arrow above an item indicates there are items that have cited the work that can be retrieved by clicking on it.

The red down arrow similarly leads to the works that were cited in the item.

There is also a tool for producing formatted citations for retrieved items.  Access the tools list as shown above in How Do I Save My Search Results? and select Citation.

A window will open that allows you to select the desired citation format and copy the citation.

Beware that this tool does not always produce perfect citations. Make sure to check citations against the standard before using them in an assignment or research paper.
