NIH and other Federal Open Access Policies: Link My NCBI & eRA Commons & ORCID iD accounts

Create New My NCBI Account

Principal Investigators and PDs must use their My NCBI Bibliography to manage their professional bibliographies (as of July 23, 2010, see the full notice here)

To create a My NCBI Account:

  • Go to PubMed
  • In the upper right-hand corner, click on "Log In."

  • Researchers may use their GW credentials. On the 'Log In' page, select 'More Login Options.'

  • In the search bar, type in 'The George Washington University.' Log in using your GW credentials.

  • After the account has been created, you will be brought to the "My NCBI" homepage.

Link My NCBI to eRA Commons Accounts & ORCiD profile

Linking My NCBI with other profiles, such as eRA Commons and ORCiD, allows these systems to communicate with each other. This makes it easier to fulfill compliance requirements. 

To link My NCBI and eRA Commons:

  • Log in to My NCBI. On the homepage, select your username in the upper right corner. In the dropdown menu, select 'Account Settings.'

  • On the 'Account settings' page, scroll to the section 'Linked Accounts.' Select 'Add account.' In the pop-up menu, search for eRA Commons in the search bar.

  • Fill in your eRA Commons credentials. Once your accounts are linked, they will be listed under the 'Linked Accounts' section. 

To link your ORCiD:

  • Log in to your NCBI account. 
  • In the upper right corner, click on your username. In the dropdown menu, select 'Account settings'

  • On the 'Account settings' page, scroll to the section 'Linked Accounts.' Select 'Add account.' In the pop-up menu, search for ORCiD in the search bar.

  • Fill in your ORCiD credentials. Once submitted, the two accounts will be linked. 

If you have problems!

If you receive an error message when trying to link accounts, you will need to contact NCBI directly to have them manually link your eRA Commons account with your My NCBI account.

Include in your email the following:

  • MyNCBI username
  • eRA Commons username
  • Email address

Do not send your passwords.
