Himmelfarb will ship books to students enrolled in off-campus/online courses in the SMHS, GWSPH, or SON. Here's what to do:
Who is eligible? This service is restricted to those students who are currently enrolled in off-campus/online classes offered in the SMHS, GWSPH, or SON. This service is not available to on-campus students who are out of town for a rotation, externship, etc.
What materials are eligible? Books from our borrowing collection that are located onsite may be shipped. No AV materials such as DVDs, CDs or videos are eligible, nor are items in the Reference and Reserve collections. Print journals may not be shipped, although copies of individual articles may be sent upon request. How are requests made? Use the Delivery Request Form.
How many items maximum can be requested? The limit is 5 items per user. (If a multi-volume set is requested, each volume counts as one item.)
What is the checkout period? These items will have an extended due date. To accommodate the time lost in shipping, due dates for items will be 30 days rather than the usual 3 weeks Items being returned must be postmarked by the due date in order not to accrue overdue fines.
What is the cost of shipping? Himmelfarb Library assumes the cost of shipping items to users. The borrower assumes the cost of shipping items back to Himmelfarb.
What is the method of shipping? USPS ships our materials.
How long will it take for materials to arrive (i.e. delivery time)? Deliveries should arrive within 7 days of the request.
Who has liability for lost materials? The borrower assumes liability for items being returned that are lost in transit. If the borrower returns items via the Post Office, we advise that they insure the package. With proof of insurance, the borrower is not responsible for items the Post Office loses during shipping.
What are the possible overdue fines? Overdue fines are the same as for books borrowed on-site. Daily fines will no longer accrue on circulating books. At 41 days past the due date, however, the patron will be assessed overdue, item replacement, and processing fees totaling $120.
What about lost / stolen / damaged items? If a Himmelfarb Library item becomes lost or stolen while in your possession, you will be responsible for paying replacement fees and any overdue fines accrued before the item was reported lost. In some cases, a portion of the fines will be forgiven if there is documentation of theft.
How can I pay for overdue / lost / stolen / damaged items? Contact the Circulation Desk at (202) 994-2962 to arrange payment.
How can I renew or place holds? Online Ed students may renew items online or over the phone, as long as their account is in good standing. Should someone else place a hold on any items the Online Ed student has checked out, the student may not renew those items, but must instead return them by the original due date.
Online Ed students who would like to place a hold on an item currently checked out should contact the Circulation Desk Manager, The Circulation Day Manager, rather than place the hold online. Call (202) 994-1829 to speak to them, or send them an e-mail.
