Fall is well underway at Himmelfarb Library. We see users fill our tables and study spaces, and watch the activity in those same spaces subside as users depart for their next class, clinic or activity. Our librarians are busy juggling their teaching responsibilities, while also scheduling research consultations to talk with students about their projects, asking questions to help them frame their research topics, and providing support and advice in identifying resources and constructing search strategies. And, Himmelfarb Library’s staff is engaged with keeping Himmelfarb’s operations, systems, and services operating smoothly and optimally.

Fall is in the air, and the Healthy Living @ Himmelfarb is once again running a Fall Colors Photo Contest! Head outdoors to capture the beautiful colors of the season in your amazing photos. Submit your best photo for the chance to win a PRIZE. The contest is open to all students, residents, faculty, and staff affiliated with the GW’s School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Milken Institute School of Public Health, and School of Nursing.

RefWorks has made two new tools available to support academic and professional writing, and both tools are available via the RefWorks site as well as via the RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) for Word and Google Docs:

Primal Pictures Real Time Functional Anatomy is an exciting new, web-based resource that we are happy to offer to our patrons. Primal Pictures offers a suite of software products giving learners an interactive, three-dimensional view of human anatomy and physiology. They offer products focusing on Gross Anatomy, Anatomy & Physiology, Clinical & Imaging, Functional Anatomy, and Embryology. The Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library recently licensed access to the Functional Anatomy module.

A docking monitor is a second screen that connects to your laptop with a single cable, instantly expanding your workspace and powering your devices. It expands your available workspace. Rather than flipping between tabs, for example, you can view a pair of datasets side-by-side on separate monitors.

You can now use your smartphone when checking out books and other items at the Himmelfarb Library Circulation Desk. To activate this feature, you’ll use the myGW app on your phone to access your GWorld barcode. (Note: this is not the same app that you use to scan into buildings with. Building/library entrance requires the GET Mobile app.)
