RefWorks has made two new tools available to support academic and professional writing, and both tools are available via the RefWorks site as well as via the RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) for Word and Google Docs:
The Paperpal Preflight Pre-submission Check can be used to assess a manuscript’s readiness for submission to a specific journal. This tool checks for technical compliance to ensure that required article components (e.g. title, author, funding, keywords, etc.) are included, and users are able to select a target journal although this service is not available for all journals. The tool also assesses the paper for language quality including grammar, writing mechanics, readability, and academic vocabulary. To run the pre-submission check, users can upload their paper as a Word or PDF document, and will receive a detailed report with specific recommendations for improving the manuscript.
The Copyleaks Plagiarism and AI content Checker is available for pilot testing on RefWorks. This tool is intended to identify plagiarized material as well as AI-generated content. This tool compares submitted content against a database of sources and uses machine learning and natural language processing to compare a user’s document against previously published material. Users of this tool are granted 40 tokens, and each token is equivalent to 250 words. The results of a check provide users with the percentage of their document which matched other sources, as well as a linked list of those sources.
