SciENcv: Overview

How to Use This Guide

The SciENcv guide provides resources, including links from the NIH, to assist researchers in using SciENcv and building a biographical sketch. The tabs are ordered sequentially as they appear on SciENcv. Click to a specific tab for guidance on that section of the biographical sketch or start with with 'Create a Profile' and work through each section in order.

News

On May 25, 2025, the NIH will require applicants and recipients to:

  • Use SciENCV to complete Common Forms (i.e., Biographical Sketch, Current and Pending (Other) Support) and the NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement to produce digitally certified PDF(s) for use in application submission.
  • Enter enter their ORCIDs into SciENcv in the Persistent Identifier (PID) section of the Common Forms.
  • Link their ORCIDs to their eRA Commons Personal page and enter their ORCIDs into SciENcv in the Persistent Identifier (PID) section of the Common Forms.

Understanding SciENcv

Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv) is a new electronic system that helps researchers assemble the professional information needed for participation in federally funded research. SciENcv gathers and compiles information on expertise, employment, education and professional accomplishments.

Researchers can use SciENcv to create and maintain biosketches that are submitted with grant applications and annual reports. SciENcv allows researchers to describe and highlight their scientific contributions in their own words.

What SciENcv does:

  • Eliminates the need to repeatedly enter biosketch information
  • Reduces the administrative burden associated with federal grant submission and reporting requirements
  • Provides access to a researcher-claimed data repository with information on expertise, employment, education, and professional accomplishments
  • Allow researchers to describe their scientific contributions in their own language
