Himmelfarb Library’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee is proud to announce the release of the new LGBTQ+ Health Research Guide! The guide features resources that address LBGTQ+ healthcare in clinical and research settings, as well as information about local LGBTQ+ health centers and organizations. Books, e-books, and journals from Himmelfarb’s collection, educational resources such as glossaries of terminology, and podcasts to help you learn about LGBTQ+ healthcare are showcased.
The Researchers tab provides insight into useful MeSH search terms, links to the library’s other guides on research and publishing, and information specific to conducting LGBTQ+ research. This tab also features publications related to LGBTQ+ health by GW authors in Himmelfarb’s Health Sciences Research Commons (HSRC). Under the GW & DMV Resources tab, you’ll find links to local LGBTQ+ health centers as well as GW student organizations. If you are a member of a GW organization and would like your organization to be featured in this guide, please contact the current committee chair, Brittany Smith, at bsmith91@gwu.edu.
The DEI committee created this guide with the utmost consideration and dedication. In order to determine the most useful resources for our community, the committee audited similar guides from other institutions and consulted the article LGBTQ+ health research guides: a multi-institutional analysis of usage patterns and user information needs from the Journal of the Medical Library Association. This work follows the successful release of our Antiracism in Healthcare guide last year.
The DEI Committee wants this guide to be a high-quality resource relevant to our community, and we encourage our users to share resources for inclusion in the guide through our Resource Suggestion Form. Additionally, if you’re interested in partnering with the DEI Committee, please contact the current committee chair, Brittany Smith, at bsmith91@gwu.edu.
