As I write this, it’s a busy time in Himmelfarb Library and across the GW campus. Study spaces in Himmelfarb fill and empty according to class schedules, as students prepare for exams, papers, and the end of the semester. But, by the time that you read this, we will be kicking off a new semester in a new year so I wanted to share information on what’s happening in Himmelfarb:
Beginning the Monday following Thanksgiving, Himmelfarb began its updated schedule. The library is open 6am to midnight from Monday through Friday and from 8am to midnight on Saturday and Sunday. Our hours do change around holidays and you can always get the current and planned holiday hours on our homepage: https://guides.himmelfarb.gwu.edu/hours
Last spring, Himmelfarb Library along with GW Libraries and Academic Innovation moved from EZproxy authentication to OpenAthens authentication. While this project required a significant amount of work by library staff, the success of the project means that the change was not perceptible to many of our users as they continued to access information resources by logging in with their GW UserID and password. That said, durable links to library-provided journal articles, books and other resources do require updates to reflect the change to OpenAthens. Himmelfarb Library’s research guide on Linking to Electronic Resources provides instructions on how to do this, and you can always Ask A Librarian if you have questions or run into a tricky link.
Finally, while teaching and learning are at the core of GW, many of our users also conduct research and share the results of that work. In advance of the NIH adopting the Biographical Sketch Common Form and the Current and Pending (Other) Support Common Form in 2025, Brittany Smith has developed a SciENcv research guide to support users creating the required documentation via SciENcv. As part of our Researcher Profile Audit Service, Himmelfarb’s staff can also provide advice and support to users updating and connecting their information via Scopus, ORCID, and SciENcv to make this process easier in the future. And, if you have concerns or questions about a journal for a possible submission, consult our Predatory Publishing research guide or ask Ruth Bueter (rbueter@gwu.edu) for a consultation.
As always, Himmelfarb’s team is here to support your work - in teaching and learning, research and clinical care. If you have a question, please ask us!
Many thanks,
Laura Abate
