What is Study Design?

Clinical medical studies vary in design, scope, rigor, and function. Types of study design include: meta-analyses, systematic reviews, practice guidelines, randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, case control studies, and case reports. An understanding of the different types of clinical medical studies and how they relate is crucial when practicing evidence-based medicine (EBM).
