Welcome

Himmelfarb Library is pleased to welcome GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Milken Institute School of Public Health, and School of Nursing students, residents, faculty and staff!  We provide 24/7 access to our online collections to support clinical care, research, and education, as well as extended library hours.

Who answers questions? Himmelfarb reference and research staff answer questions: Rachel Brill, Tom Harrod, Rebecca Kyser, and Deborah Wassertzug. We may also connect you with a specific staff member to provide specialized support.

How do we communicate?  We're available via email, chat, and phone for quick questions, and can schedule web conferences for more in-depth questions and projects. 

What can librarians help with?    We can help with quick questions (finding full-text, identifying a resource, formatting a citation or using a citation management tool) as well as with more in-depth queries: 

  • Research consultations including search strategies to support doctoral literature reviews and support for culminating experience projects in the Milken Institute School of Public Health.
  • Systematic reviews  
  • Data management

What hours is the service offered? Mon-Thurs: 8:30 AM - 8 PM, Fri 8 AM - 4 PM & Sun 4PM - 8 PM

Collections

Himmelfarb: On-Site Access

Himmelfarb Library's building is open to students, faculty, residents and staff affiliated with GW's SMHS, SON, and GWSPH.  All affiliates must present a valid GWorld card upon entry to Ross Hall and Himmelfarb Library entry.

Himmelfarb Online

Himmelfarb Library provides access to 125+ electronic databases, 6,700+ electronic books, and 6,500+ electronic journals.  Online access is available 24/7 to GW faculty, students, residents, and staff. 

 

Shipping Service

Are you enrolled in online classes offered in the SMHS, GWSPH, or SON?  Shipping Service is available for Himmelfarb's collection as well as as Consortium Loan Service (CLS) and Interlibrary Loan items.

 

Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery

Do you need something that is not available at Himmelfarb?  Request it via Documents2Go!  Items delivered via online delivery, Shipping Service, or Himmelfarb pick-up!  

 

Consortium Loan Service

Do you need something available at another local academic library?  Request it by logging in to Health Information @ Himmefarb!  Items delivered to Himmelfarb or the VSTC library via Himmelfarb's Shipping Service or Himmelfarb pick-up!

Instruction

  • Durable Links Service:  we will check and fix broken links; ensure links work from on- and off-campus locations; and create new links.  Email himmelfarb@gwu.edu

  • Reserves: electronic, print and streaming reserves to provide access to course materials.
